Dear IIUM Kuantan students..
SRC Kuantan would like to announce the opening of APPLICATION FOR SRC "WE CARE' fund. Objective of this fund is to assist students who are interested to cover their allowance due to late of receiving scholarship or educational loan.

Terms and conditions of SRC "WE CARE" fund are:

1. The maximum loan is up to RM200 solely
2. The applicant must bring along the IC card during the form submission.
3. Date of payment is within ONE week after the scholarship allowance is received.
4. This loan is only offered to scholarship and other educational loan holder who are not receive the allowances yet.
5. The applicant must bring a witness together during the form submission.

Application form can be taken from SRC Constituency representative for each kulliyyah from 3-4 January 2011. Application form should be submitted on Wednesday 5 January 2011 at SRC office. For more details please contact:

Do You Know What You Want?

You might think employers will appreciate your “I’m willing to do or learn anything” approach to getting a job. However, most employers interpret that as “I’m desperate” or “I have no focus, so I’m just taking a shot at whatever I stumble across.”

If you’re fuzzy about the type of job you want, now is the time to work with a career counselor at your school. There, you can take a career assessment test, learn how and why informational interviewing can help you gain focus and talk over your specific concerns with someone trained to help you.

Do You Have Experience?

Employers look for evidence that you’ve gained experience in your field through internships, co-ops, part- or full-time jobs, or even volunteering. KUALA LUMPUR 5 Jun – Orang ramai tidak harus meragui kualiti pembelajaran dan pengajaran di Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) walaupun ia tidak disenaraikan dalam kedudukan universiti terbaik dunia sebelum ini.

Reaktornya, Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid berkata, ketiadaan dalam senarai itu berikutan keputusan pihaknya sebelum ini untuk tidak mendaftar UIAM bagi dinilai oleh pihak yang menyediakan ranking berkenaan.

”Tumpuan UIAM yang ditubuhkan pada 1983 ialah menjadi universiti terbaik di kalangan negara-negara Pertubuhan Persidangan Islam (OIC) dan bukan menyenarainya dalam ranking universiti terbaik Asia, Eropah atau dunia,” katanya.

Beliau berkata demikian pada Pameran dan Persidangan Zon Perniagaan dan Pelaburan Muslim World Biz 2010 di Pusat Dagangan Dunia Putra (PWTC) di sini hari ini.

Syed Arabi membentangkan kertas kerja bertajuk Peralihan dan Transformasi Dalam Pendidikan: Kajian Kes UIAM pada pameran dan persidangan itu yang dianjurkan oleh OIC International Business Centre Sdn. Bhd.

Beliau menjelaskan, hanya pada tahun ini pihaknya membuat keputusan untuk memasukkan nama UIAM di dalam Ranking Universiti Asia QS 2010 dan universiti itu telah ditempatkan pada kedudukan ke-159.

Dalam perkembangan berkaitan, katanya, UIAM sedang melakukan transformasi terhadap kaedah pengajaran dan pembelajarannya supaya lebih berteraskan kepada penyelidikan.

”Di kalangan universiti di 57 negara OIC, UIAM adalah antara yang terawal beralih untuk menjadi universiti penyelidikan dan kita berharap ia akan menjadi ikutan,” katanya.

Mengenai perancangan pada masa depan, beliau berkata, pihaknya sedang mengkaji kemungkinan memperkenalkan bidang pengajian berkaitan pertanian.

Sementara itu, beliau berkata, antara kejayaan yang telah dicapai oleh UIAM ialah bagi melahirkan pemimpin yang kini menerajui sektor awam dan swasta di negara-negara OIC.

”Antaranya ialah Menteri Luar Turki, Profesor Ahmet Davutoglu yang merupakan bekas kakitangan UIAM manakala Gabenor Bank Pusat Gambia, Momodou Bamba Saho adalah siswazah UIAM,” ujarnya.’

Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage Students’ Society will be organizing Islamic Carnival 2010. The carnival will begin with an opening ceremony and a forum with the title “Muslim Step Forward”.

There will be two prominent panelist in this forum which is Dr. Zahazan Muhammad and the new Imam Muda from ASTRO, Ustaz Mohammad Asyraf Mohd Ridzuan. The moderator for the forum is Bro Mohammad Firwan Norliza, the president of SRC 2010/2011.

The forum will be held in Main Auditorium this coming Monday 20th September 2010.

1. The session involved Student Representative Council (SRC) for Allied Health Science Constituency IIUM, USM and Persatuan Pelajar Sains Kesihatan (PPSK). They are Mohd Hakim B Zakaria (SRC IIUM 2009/10), Sis. Hamizah (SRC AHS USM), Bro. Ridhuan (President PPSK), Sis. Maryuni (Exco PPSK), Sis. Aminah (SRC USM) and Bro Hilmi (SRC IIUM 2008/09).

2. Details of session as follows:
Date : 7th May 2010
Time : 9.30 a.m. – 12.00 p.m.

b) Briefing of overview on Heals,PPSK & SRC.

School of Health Science consists of 1000+ that contains 11 courses/programs such as Nutrition, Environmental and Occupation Health Science, Sport Science, Medical Radiation, Speech, Biomedical, Audiology, Dietetic, Forensic Science, Diploma of Nursing, and Bachelor of Nursing.

ii) Every courses/program in HS school will send representatives in PPSK during AGM. There is secretariat system was applied in PPSK. Every course have own secretariat and this secretariat have function to lead and run subject-related program. For example, Sport Science Secretariat will run paralympic games. However this program still was organized under PPSK. Meanwhile, PPSK have more function to cater service-based and general activity for all Allied Health Science Students.

iii) Example of program that was conducted by PPSK is Motivational Slot with lecturers, Trial OSPE and OSCE, and Compilation of question (own-initiatives).

c) Planning of AHS Constituency that may give benefit for students.

- Debate inter-courses.
- Presentation of Best Final Year Project (FYP) to appreciate final year students and give motivation to other students.
- Dialog session (Heals already conducted Speak Out Loud).

d) Program Collaboration AHS USM-IIUM.

- For the beginning, this collaboration is to gather and build rapport among AHS Students in Malaysia. There are three program were suggested which are Students Health Convention, National Health Quiz, and Games Carnival inter AHS faculty. After long discussion, we have concluded that convention and Quiz are academic based program and need some specialization to be conducted. Meanwhile Games Carnival is social based program and more suitable and combine similarities among various discipline in Allied Health Science. Insyaallah, USM will organize Inter AHS faculty Games Carnival in semester 2 and some of students from IIUM will involved as support committee for this carnival. The technical and operation part will be handled by USM and further discussion will be informed to us later.

e) Link and medium for connection among AHS students.

- For the beginning, this session had agreed to establish the Facebook group as medium of connection. Insyaallah, initiative to establish official blog or portal will discussed with SRC AHS from another university.

f) Arising matters and conclusion

- This session hope the discussion gives benefit for both parties and collaboration that is initiated can improve ukhwah of AHS students IIUM-USM.

HEALS would like to congratulate to all participants of Training Of Trainers (T.O.T) and Iflah camp which was held on 11-13 April 2010 at Kalumpang Resort, Hulu Selangor. It was organized by Students Learning Enhancement Unit (SLEU) Gombak and Kuantan campus.

To inform you, the TOT participants need to undergo an interview before they manage to go to the training. From Kuantan campus, we have sent 6 representatives for the training. And out of 6, 4 of them are from our kulliyyah!... They are:

1. Azuwan bin Musa (Opto/yr 3)
2. Mohd. Ramadan bin Ab.Hamid (Diet/ yr3)
3. Muhammad Rizal bin Marsudin (Audio/ yr 2)
4. Azizah binti Mohamed (Diet/ yr 2)

For the Iflah camp, they are volunteer participants. And most them are also from our kulliyyah.

For Kuantan campus, the SLEU unit is headed by Sr.Azrita, lecturer from Departement of Audiology. The SLEU office is combined with the Audio department office. Level 5, Kulliyyah of Medicine.

So, to all HEALS members, keep yourself active!.. This is the only time for you to expose yourself and get a lot of experience by joining the IIUM programs.

Tamat sudah kehangatan Inter Kulliyyah Sport Carnival UIA Kuantan.

Untuk edisi kali ini, Kuliah Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu menduduki tempat ke-4 kesuluruhan.

Tahniah buat skuad ping pong dan chess lelaki kerana berjaya memperoleh pingat emas. Syabas buat pasukan chess perempuan yang berjaya memperoleh pingat perak. Tidak dilupakan juga tahniah buat skuad carom lelaki & perempuan, sepak takraw dan bola keranjang kerana berjaya melangkah paling kurang ke separuh akhir/ memperoleh gangsa atau tempat ke-4.

Syabas juga buat pemain-pemain sukan lain kerana tidak gentar untuk turun beraksi walaupun tidak berjaya memperoleh keputusan yang memberansangkan.

Maaf jika ada sukan-sukan lain yang berjaya dalam karnival sukan kali ini, tetapi terlepas pandang untuk disebut pada ruangan kali ini.

Kini muncul kehangatan baru bagi warga UIA Kuantan.

Kehangatan Pilihan Raya Kampus.

Walaupun PRK UIA Kuantan tidaklah sehangat iklim PRK di UM, UIA Gombak dan UKM, namun kehadirannya tetap dirasai.

Hari ini adalah hari penamaan calon. Alhamdullilah, Kuliah Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu masih berjaya mengekalkan tradisi yang membezakan kuliah ini dengan kuliah yang lain, iaitu pertandingan dalam PRK.

Seperti yang dijangka, bilangan pelajar yang mengambil borang akan berkurang apabila tiba ke saat temuduga bersama dekan-dekan UIA Kuantan. Jumlah tersebut akan terus berkurang apabila tiba hari penamaan calon. Mujurlah masih ada 3 orang yang mahu mencuba nasib untuk berbakti, khususnya kepada pelajar kuliah Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu dan umumnya kepada semua pelajar UIA.

Pertandingan adalah amat penting dalam PRK dan diri ini sangat bersetuju dengan wujudnya saingan sihat antara pelajar. Mungkin pendapatku ini kurang disetujui oleh sesetengah pihak yang mendakwa pertandingan ini bakal memcecahbelahkan pelajar di dalam kuliah tersebut.

Sebenarnya, masalah sikap yang mampu memecahberaikan ukhwah para pelajar, bukannya pertandingan yang sihat dalam PRK. Adanya pertandingan ini menandakan aspirasi mahasiswa masih wujud dalam sesuatu kuliah tersebut. Ia juga memberi peluang kepada para calon untuk menawarkan khidmat yang terbaik untuk disumbangkan, seterusnya memberi pilihan kepada para pelajar memilih mereka yang dirasakan terbaik untuk menjadi wakil suara mereka.

Diri ini senada dengan Timbalan Dekan Hal Ehwal Pelajar, Mdm. Narimah Daud yang mahukan seramai mungkin pelajar yang menyertai PRK. Semakin ramai, semakin bagus ungkapnya.

Iklim PRK UIA Kuantan sehingga kini masih berimejkan intelektual dan diharapkan ia akan terus berkekalan untuk PRK kali ini.

Kepada para calon, berkempenlah dengan kempen yang bersih. Usah dibuka aib pihak lawan. Tumpukan perhatian untuk memberikan khidmat yang terbaik.

Kepada para pelajar, turunlah mengundi pada 21hb ni. Ini kewajipan anda untuk memilih bakal pemimpin anda. Berilah sokongan yang padu pada sahabat-sahabat anda.

Kepada para penyokong calon, elakkan perbuatan yang melampau. Pelihara akhlak anda. Elakkan propaganda dan serangan yang boleh menghilangkan identiti anda sebagai seorang yang intelek dan yang lebih penting sebagai seorang muslim.

Turunlah mengundi.

Pilihlah yang terbaik antara yang terbaik.

Tahniah dan takziah kepada sahabat-sahabat yang bakal memimpin HEALS bagi sesi 2009/2010. Segunung harapan digalas di atas bahu kamu semua bagi memastikan legasi yang ditinggalkan oleh pimpinan terdahulu di zaman pemerintahan Farid, Syazwan dan Irfan diteruskan dan terus melangkah ke hadapan, bukannya rebah membumi ke belakang.

Saya di sini bukanlah orang yang terbaik untuk memberi pesan dan peringatan, tetapi atas rasa sedikit tanggungjawab, saya rasa terpanggil untuk mencoret di ruang ini.

Wahai para pimpinan,

Ikhlaskanlah niatmu. Niat adalah batu asas yang paling penting dalam setiap saat kehidupan seharian kita. Apabila rosak niatmu, maka rosaklah segalanya. Semuannya menjadi tidak bermakna. Bekerja tanpa niat yang betul, bakal memenatkan kita. Kita mungkin mampu mencapai objektif dan matlamat kerja kita, tetapi hasil dalaman dan 'roh'nya akan kosong. Niatlah kamu memegang amanah ini adalah untuk memperoleh redha-Nya yang tidak ternilai. Niat ini ibarat stereng kereta. Apabila kita menghalakan stereng tersebut ke arah yang betul, insyAllah kita akan tiba ke destinasi yang betul. Jika kita halakan stereng tersebut ke arah yang salah, kita semestinya akan tiba ke destinasi yang salah. Stereng tersebut mungkin akan lari haluannya di pertengahan perjalanan kelak. Adalah menjadi tugas kita untuk menghalakan kembali stereng tersebut kepada arah yang sepatutnya.

Wahai sahabat-sahabat,

Ingtlah bahawa jawatan dan pangkat ini hanyalah sementara dan merupakan suatu amanah yang akan dipersoalkan kelak. Usahlah dibanggakan. Sahutlah amanah ini dengan sebaiknya. Laksanakan tugas dengan sebaiknya dan bersungguh-sungguh. Pelbagai halangan, ujian dan dugaan pasti akan datang mengganggu perjalanan kita dalam melaksanakan amanah ini. Pandanglah ke sirah sahabat-sahabat. Mereka menangis apabila diberikan satu amanah. Kita bagaimana?? Semoga semua berjaya memikul benda yang paling berat pada pandangan Imam Ghazali Rahimullah ini.

"Dan apabila kamu dihormati dengan suatu (salam) penghormatan, maka balaslah penghormatan itu dengan lebih baik atau balaslah (penghormatan itu, dengan yang sepadan) dengannya. Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Memperhitung setiap segala sesuatu" (an-Nisa':86)

Wahai sahabat- sahabiah seperjuangan,

Pangkat dan jawatan ini tidak seharusnya menjadikan kita jauh daripada ahli HEALS yang lain. Kita harus menginsafi diri bahawa kita dipilih oleh-NYA untuk memikul amanah ini atas wasilah pilihan rakan-rakan. Kita naik hasil undian mereka. Kita dipilih oleh rakan-rakan kita yang mahukan kita memimpin mereka di atas stand HEALS. Usahlah musnahkan harapan mereka. Usahlah syok sendiri. Cubalah untuk menganjurkan program atau aktiviti yang memenuhi selera dan permintaan para pelajar, bukannya kehendak pimpinan HEALS. Marilah bersama-sama merakyatkan HEALS. Ingat, kita adalah satu. HEALS adalah untuk semua, bukan hanya untuk pimpinan HEALS sahaja.

Wahai para pelajar Kuliah Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu UIA,

Kami adalah wakil-wakil yang dipilih oleh kamu semua untuk menguruskan persatuan ini, maka, sokong dan bantulah kami. Janganlah dibiarkan kami berada di awangan. Tegurlah kami secara berhikmah andaikata kami ada tersalah langkah. Berilah candangan dan pandangan yang bernas. Kami sentiasa mengalu-alukan cadangan, komen dan teguran daripada anda semua. Orang yang berada di atas seringkali tidak merasai apa yang dirasakan oleh orang yang di bawah. Maka, bantulah kami untuk turut merasai apa yang dirasai oleh anda. Berilah sokongan dan kerjasama yang jitu kepada kami andaikata HEALS ada mendakan apa-apa aktiviti atau program.

Akhirnya, marilah kita semua berdoa agar DIA memudahkan segala gerak kerja HEALS dan kita senantiasa berada di atas landasan yang sepatutnya. Ingat, kita adalah SATU. HEALS ADALAH UNTUK SEMUA (para pelajar kuliah Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu sahaja).

General Information

What is novel H1N1 (swine flu)?

Novel H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. This virus is spreading from person-to-person worldwide, probably in much the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread. On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) signaled that a pandemic of novel H1N1 flu was underway.

Why is novel H1N1 virus sometimes called “swine flu”?

This virus was originally referred to as “swine flu” because laboratory testing showed that many of the genes in this new virus were very similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs (swine) in North America. But further study has shown that this new virus is very different from what normally circulates in North American pigs. It has two genes from flu viruses that normally circulate in pigs in Europe and Asia and bird (avian) genes and human genes. Scientists call this a "quadruple reassortant" virus.

Is novel H1N1 virus contagious?
CDC has determined that novel H1N1 virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human.

How does novel H1N1 virus spread?

Spread of novel H1N1 virus is thought to occur in the same way that seasonal flu spreads. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with influenza. Sometimes people may become infected by touching something – such as a surface or object – with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

What are the signs and symptoms of this virus in people?

The symptoms of novel H1N1 flu virus in people include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. Severe illnesses and death has occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus.

How severe is illness associated with novel H1N1 flu virus?
Illness with the new H1N1 virus has ranged from mild to severe. While most people who have been sick have recovered without needing medical treatment, hospitalizations and deaths from infection with this virus have occurred.

In seasonal flu, certain people are at “high risk” of serious complications. This includes people 65 years and older, children younger than five years old, pregnant women, and people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions. About 70 percent of people who have been hospitalized with this novel H1N1 virus have had one or more medical conditions previously recognized as placing people at “high risk” of serious seasonal flu-related complications. This includes pregnancy, diabetes, heart disease, asthma and kidney disease.

One thing that appears to be different from seasonal influenza is that adults older than 64 years do not yet appear to be at increased risk of novel H1N1-related complications thus far. CDC laboratory studies have shown that children and few adults younger than 60 years old do not have existing antibody to novel H1N1 flu virus; however, about one-third of adults older than 60 may have antibodies against this virus. It is unknown how much, if any, protection may be afforded against novel H1N1 flu by any existing antibody.

How does novel H1N1 flu compare to seasonal flu in terms of its severity and infection rates?
With seasonal flu, we know that seasons vary in terms of timing, duration and severity. Seasonal influenza can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Each year, in the United States, on average 36,000 people die from flu-related complications and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related causes. Of those hospitalized, 20,000 are children younger than 5 years old. Over 90% of deaths and about 60 percent of hospitalization occur in people older than 65.

When the novel H1N1 outbreak was first detected in mid-April 2009, CDC began working with states to collect, compile and analyze information regarding the novel H1N1 flu outbreak, including the numbers of confirmed and probable cases and the ages of these people. The information analyzed by CDC supports the conclusion that novel H1N1 flu has caused greater disease burden in people younger than 25 years of age than older people. At this time, there are few cases and few deaths reported in people older than 64 years old, which is unusual when compared with seasonal flu. However, pregnancy and other previously recognized high risk medical conditions from seasonal influenza appear to be associated with increased risk of complications from this novel H1N1. These underlying conditions include asthma, diabetes, suppressed immune systems, heart disease, kidney disease, neurocognitive and neuromuscular disorders and pregnancy.

How long can an infected person spread this virus to others?
People infected with seasonal and novel H1N1 flu shed virus and may be able to infect others from 1 day before getting sick to 5 to 7 days after. This can be longer in some people, especially children and people with weakened immune systems and in people infected with the new H1N1 virus.

Prevention & Treatment

What can I do to protect myself from getting sick?

There is no vaccine available right now to protect against novel H1N1 virus. However, a novel H1N1 vaccine is currently in production and may be ready for the public in the fall. As always, a vaccine will be available to protect against seasonal influenza

There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza.

Take these everyday steps to protect your health:

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners* are also effective.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.) Keep away from others as much as possible to keep from making others sick.

Other important actions that you can take are:

Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.
Be prepared in case you get sick and need to stay home for a week or so; a supply of over-the-counter medicines, alcohol-based hand rubs,* tissues and other related items might could be useful and help avoid the need to make trips out in public while you are sick and contagious

What is the best way to keep from spreading the virus through coughing or sneezing?

What should I do if I get sick?

If you live in areas where people have been identified with novel H1N1 flu and become ill with influenza-like symptoms, including fever, body aches, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, you should stay home and avoid contact with other people. CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.) Stay away from others as much as possible to keep from making others sick.Staying at home means that you should not leave your home except to seek medical care. This means avoiding normal activities, including work, school, travel, shopping, social events, and public gatherings.

If you have severe illness or you are at high risk for flu complications, contact your health care provider or seek medical care. Your health care provider will determine whether flu testing or treatment is needed.

If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, seek emergency medical care.

In children, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:

Fast breathing or trouble breathing
Bluish or gray skin color
Not drinking enough fluids
Severe or persistent vomiting
Not waking up or not interacting
Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
Sudden dizziness
Confusion
Severe or persistent vomiting
Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough

Are there medicines to treat novel H1N1 infection?

Yes. CDC recommends the use of oseltamivir or zanamivir for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with novel H1N1 flu virus. Antiviral drugs are prescription medicines (pills, liquid or an inhaled powder) that fight against the flu by keeping flu viruses from reproducing in your body. If you get sick, antiviral drugs can make your illness milder and make you feel better faster. They may also prevent serious flu complications. During the current pandemic, the priority use for influenza antiviral drugs during is to treat severe influenza illness (for example hospitalized patients) and people who are sick who have a condition that places them at high risk for serious flu-related complications.

Contamination & Cleaning

How long can influenza virus remain viable on objects (such as books and doorknobs)?

Studies have shown that influenza virus can survive on environmental surfaces and can infect a person for 2 to 8 hours after being deposited on the surface.

What kills influenza virus?

Influenza virus is destroyed by heat (167-212°F [75-100°C]). In addition, several chemical germicides, including chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, detergents (soap), iodophors (iodine-based antiseptics), and alcohols are effective against human influenza viruses if used in proper concentration for a sufficient length of time. For example, wipes or gels with alcohol in them can be used to clean hands. The gels should be rubbed into hands until they are dry.

*What if soap and water are not available and alcohol-based products are not allowed in my facility?

Though the scientific evidence is not as extensive as that on hand washing and alcohol-based sanitizers, other hand sanitizers that do not contain alcohol may be useful for killing flu germs on hands.

What surfaces are most likely to be sources of contamination?

Germs can be spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth. Droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person move through the air. Germs can be spread when a person touches respiratory droplets from another person on a surface like a desk, for example, and then touches their own eyes, mouth or nose before washing their hands.

How should waste disposal be handled to prevent the spread of influenza virus?

To prevent the spread of influenza virus, it is recommended that tissues and other disposable items used by an infected person be thrown in the trash. Additionally, persons should wash their hands with soap and water after touching used tissues and similar waste.

What household cleaning should be done to prevent the spread of influenza virus?

To prevent the spread of influenza virus it is important to keep surfaces (especially bedside tables, surfaces in the bathroom, kitchen counters and toys for children) clean by wiping them down with a household disinfectant according to directions on the product label.

How should linens, eating utensils and dishes of persons infected with influenza virus be handled?

Linens, eating utensils, and dishes belonging to those who are sick do not need to be cleaned separately, but importantly these items should not be shared without washing thoroughly first.

Linens (such as bed sheets and towels) should be washed by using household laundry soap and tumbled dry on a hot setting. Individuals should avoid “hugging” laundry prior to washing it to prevent contaminating themselves. Individuals should wash their hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub immediately after handling dirty laundry.

Eating utensils should be washed either in a dishwasher or by hand with water and soap.

On 21st- 24th April 2009, HEALS had organized Jalinan Budi 2 at Kampung Meranti, Pekan, Pahang successfully. 42 students from any departments of our kulliyyah participated this program. Before this program conducted, all participants need to attend induction on 20th April 2009 to complete all tasks and final preparation.

By joining this program, participants can provide community services to the others and they get opportunity to contribute their ideas and knowledge as students. A lot of activities were conducted during this program such as tuition class, De tour village, movie show, coloring contest, exhibition from government agency, cultural night and others.

First and foremost, our deepest sorry for not updating this blog as everybody is busy with their own agenda during holidays. But, now. Don't worry! We're back updating this blog with the latest info and updates on HEALS.

Oppps. i guess it's not too late to welcome all the first year students to our beloved IIUM and of course to our beloved Kuliyyah. Your journey begin here and treasure all your time while you are here :) We are welcoming all of you to our family with an open hand :)

As for final year students, Alhamdulillah, they'll be graduating on August. Congratulations to all the graduates-to-be. May the upcoming years and new life as an Optometrist, Dietician, Audiologist and Radiographer becomes the most wonderful experiences ever. Dont ever forget us and our family :)

First of all, on behalf of HEALS, we would like to congrats to the new SRC members specifically representatives from our kulliyyah who has won in the election.

Below are some of the election progress information:

The election was done at Multipurpose Hall (MPH) started from 9.00am till 5.00pm. For our kulliyyah, there 247 students that are eligible to vote. However, only 222 students turned up, 5 students were 'misssing' and 20 students were doing practical (did not vote).

To cut short, the SRC council commission had announced the winners at 5.30pm and the results are:

1. MOHD. FIRDAUS BIN NAZRI SHAHARUDDIN (3rd year, Dietetics) - 89 votes
2. NOR SABRINA BINTI SUBRI (3rd year, Optometry) - 182 votes
3. MOHD. HILMI BIN YA'KUB (2nd year, Dietetics) - 159 votes

So, congrats to all contestants and all members who had shown fully support on our election this year. Here, we have some leadership quotations for you guys.
