“The rise of Islam offers perhaps the most impressive example in world history of the power of words to alter human behavior in sudden, surprising ways."

(William H. McNeill)

Do You Know?

Islamic tradition holds that during one of his visits to Mount Hira, the angel Jibrail appeared to Muhammad (610M) and commanded Muhammad to recite the following verses:

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, (1)

Who created-Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: (2)

Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful, (3)

He Who taught (the use of) the pen, (4)

Taught man that which he knew not. (5)

al-Qur'an, sura 96 (al-Alaq), ayat 1-5
